R.I.P Mom

My mom passed away on Tuesday. I’m writing this mostly for myself trying to process this and thinking of our loving mom. It is still unbelievable to understand that she will no longer be with us. Feels like I can still pick up the phone and call her. I do believe that she somehow still is checking in on us, and is present in one form or another, not just in our thoughts. I was smoking on the balcony this morning and saw a big seagull on a roof across the street looking around. As we noticed each other, it spread its wings and flew away. Maybe that was mom just letting me know she was still around. Or maybe she tried to tell me to quit the damn cigarettes already!

Our mom was at the hospital for the past two weeks. She had been at home before then with some health issues. It was finally decided that she needed more treatment at a hospital. We all felt happy that they could get her more help there, and hopefully be pain free as well as regain her strength and then come back home. With Corona we were not allowed to visit her, but talked on the phone often. We kept our hopes up, but when you are old, recovery is slower. They treated her, but other symptoms and concerns arose, and she was getting weaker.

On Monday night her doctor called and said we should come visit her at the hospital. They would arrange a private room to prevent us from being in contact with any other patients due to Corona. We understood then it was serious. Visits at the hospital are only allowed if the patient might not make it. It was me, my sister, nephew and his girlfriend. We tried to be strong for her, but it’s impossible to not cry when someone you love is at this stage. Mom said she was not in any pain which felt important. She was happy to see us all there. Then they said they were taking her for some more x-rays. They told us we better go home and they would contact us if anything happened. We talked with the nurses and doctor during night time. Mom was not getting better, but was stable. We were told we could come back in the morning.

On Tuesday, as soon as we woke up, we left for the hospital. Her doctor came in and said they were going to attempt a surgery. We were informed that since she was so weak, she might not wake up after the anesthesia. Still, this was the best option. We were told to go have a coffee and be back in 2 hours. As we came back they said mom was waking up from her anesthesia. They arranged a private room for mom and allowed us to be with her when she was waking up. They informed us that she was now in a serious stage and very weak. She wouldn’t even make it back to her room anymore. We held her hands and hugged her. Told her we were there and would stay by her side. That she could relax and that she would have no more pain now…

But mom wasn’t ready to kick it just yet. She was wheeled back to her room. The doctor told us that mom would slowly fall asleep and her heart would then stop beating. They gave her morphine to make sure there was in no pain. Mom was very peaceful, and we sat by her talking and telling her how much we love her. What an amazing mom and grandma she is. Her breathing slowed down and she looked like she was sleeping. I told my sister I think she took her last breath then. She was still and had a peaceful expression on her face. Right then she took another breath. It was like she told us -”hey, don’t count me out just yet…”. Even though it was such a sad moment, it made us laugh in the middle of it. But that was it… Mom was now traveling to other horizons and no travel restrictions could stop her 🙂 We sat with her for some time having the feeling she would all of a sudden open her eyes. That this was not real…

The nurses said they would take all equipment and bandages off her. We could step out for a moment, but could come back in a bit. As we stepped out of the hospital, there was a beautiful sunset. Perfect time for mom to go to her next place…

We got back and there was a light and an angel on a table next to mom. Mom looked as if she was calmly sleeping. We said our final goodbyes….

Love you Mom, and thank you for always being there for me! Loving me unconditionally. I keep thinking of all the memories and good times with you. What a fighter you were, and I think I inherited some of your stubbornness. I miss you so much, but I’m happy you are pain free now!

See you in the future…

Hiking in Sweden

Came back this past Sunday from a 3 day hike up in Jämtland. WOW! Such beautiful nature and fresh air. I went with my sister and Karina. We took the night train on Wednesday evening and had our own ‘room’ with beds.

We arrived to our destination Thursday morning and a bus took us to the trail. All geared up and very eager to get going!

The trail started uphill and we realized pretty fast we need to stop put shorts on. Then we hiked on and took coffee breaks, lunch stop, reindeer watching and just taking in the beautiful views.

Add a couple of pee-stops. I felt I had a Kodak moment where I wanted to take a selfie. Karina felt like she had an other kind of moment in the background at the same time hahahaaaa….

The weather changed the whole day. It was cloudy, some rain, windy and later on we got sun. Found a perfect spot by a river for some Champagne and I went swimming. Or more like, got in – got out, of the water. Put a bikini on? F*ck no! Outdoors and nature require no such thing!

Hiked 16km to the lodge Sylarna, where we stayed overnight. Two course dinner with some drinks was a perfect ending to our first day.

Second day hike was 19km to Blåhammaren. The views along the way are incredible.

In the afternoon when the sun was shining I rinsed off in a river. Dried off on a rock like a mermaid lost in the mountains…

People bring all kinds of essentials for hiking. Our only essential was Champagne. My sisters face says it all hahahaaaa…

After the last kilometers being uphill we were happy to reach Blåhammaren lodge. Ate an amazing 3 course dinner with fish and reindeer, perfectly combined with wine pairing 🙂

Stretching is important… I also drew the shortest stick, so I slept on a mattress on the floor while Karina and my sis slept in a bunk bed. Thanks a lot guys!

3rd and last day the hike was 12km. It was colder, but as long as the Champagne didn’t freeze, no complaints hahahaaa…

In the afternoon the bus took us back to the train. Got pizza at the local spot before the train back. We devoured the pizza before the train even took off hahahaaaa…

And after sleeping on the train back to Stockholm, we arrived like a fresh bunch at 7am 🙂

We all agreed that this was a super fun trip together. We all wished it would’ve lasted a couple of more days. Highly recommend hiking Jämtlandstriangeln (the Jämtland Triangle). You don’t need any previous experience as the hikes are pretty easy. Only suggest to invest in a decent pair of hiking shoes, back pack and a jacket and pants that can handle rain and wind. Oh, and Champagne 😉

Check out my friend Karina’s travel blog too for more info – https://reseaventyr.se/2020/08/21/vandra-jamtlandstriangeln/

Wroooooom…

Feels like the days here in Sweden fly by faster than I can say IKEA. All of a sudden an other week gone by and it’s already August! Almost Christmas! And my birthday and I get older! Holy shit! OK, maybe a bit dramatic, it’s all good hahaaahaaa….

Last weekend me & my friend Karina went kayaking for a weekend. Considered eventual disasters scenarios that we could encounter on the water. Like being run over by big boats, tipping over, the possibility of shitty weather which is like a 90% chance here in Sweden. We were in luck though! Stayed in our kayaks without being run over by boats and the sun was shining 🙂 We bought a 3 day package from Dalarö Kajak. Included everything (kayaks, tents, sleeping bags with thin mattress, camping kitchen) plus one night in a hotel with a 3 course dinner, breakfast buffet and lunch package.

Heading out. They required life vests even though I carry my own ‘floating devices’ 😉

After about 5h kayaking with a lunch stop, we found our own island to camp at the first night. This is not hard in the Swedish archipelago since there are a lot of small islands. Cooked some food, drank wine and dressed up. Who said camping can’t be glamorous? Then a magical sunset and after that the mosquitos came in herds. Only downfall…

Slept pretty good in the tent. It was a snug 2 person tent so you can forget about social distancing. The next day we spent on the island tanning and swimming. Ducks came by and had lunch with us 🙂

Around 3pm we jumped in our kayaks again and paddled to Smådalarö Gård. Super nice place and we went straight to the sauna. Karina is part Finn too, so sauna is like our second home! She has this particular style, or actually no style at all, when she jumps in the water LOL. Unfortunately I have to admit I’m no better and can’t dive… I just don’t post any proof of myself, just my friend, sorry Karina 😉

The dinner was so good and it felt like sleeping on clouds after a night in the tent 🙂

Stuffed ourself (or at least me) at breakfast. Literally…

Relaxed a bit and gathered our strength to paddle back. Well, I couldn’t resist a few selfies in the mirror before leaving…

If you visit Sweden, or are living here, I can highly recommend this trip! 10 out of 10. Great service, price and so much fun!

Karina is like a band aid. She can’t get enough of me 😉 So this weekend we were a few celebrating her birthday too…

I had the luxury of having my make up done by a couple of 12 year olds before dinner. I call the style Las-Vegas-sparkle. They just kept adding, but I must admit they did a pretty good job with what they had to work with hahhaaaaa…

This week there will be a 3 day hike at Jämtlandstriangeln. With Karina obviously, who else? My sister is coming too. I love hiking and I’m so excited about this! What you been up to?

Sunny greetings from Sweden! The sun is shining for now…

Fun times in…

…Sweden! So much to do and family & friends to see. Just got back from an amazing weekend paddling a kayak, camping and finishing with a stay at a hotel with a friend. Just have to go through (and censor) closer to 300 pics before posting them 😉

In my last post I said there was a party at my friend Linda’s. I did need some recovery, but I’m too restless to just chill. And I need coffee in the morning whatever state I’m in… Me and my sister went for a walk and found this amazing spot called The Nut House. They had a restaurant, shop and a gallery. And the hammock that I took a siesta in…

Then it was time to visit my friend Katrin and Bingo with more friends. They’re all very entertaining & hilarious and it was a full day of BBQ, sauna and catching/cracking up.

Too much laughing with my cohorts also required a dose (or a couple) of Botox. Wrinkles from laughing are great, but I have to control them a little, unless I want to rename myself to Puma the Raisin…

Every now and then I have to work too. Luckily I have a pleasureful job I enjoy, so it makes it easy 🙂

Then Nelly stepped in and said it was enough smut for one day and crashed my shoot…

Also went over to my friend Anneli. I pretty much go from one household to the next and eat & drink! Stole her kids ponies and tried burning 5 calories from all the snacks consumed.

The rest of the crop. Family, eating, starstruck, Nelly and creativity kicking in!

Hope you’re living it up this summer where ever in the world you are! Sending you virtual hugs from a safe distance 🙂

Switching countries

Sorry it’s been a while. Decided to go to Sweden and had to cram the last days in Utah. Arriving in style is necessary, so went to this amazing lady who put on some lashes and tattooed my eyebrows!

Videos and pics had to be produced…

Squeezed in one last hike and why not wash yourself while hiking? No shower needed after 🙂

And on the day of flying I always try to workout too before my flight. That way I can hopefully chill on the plane 🙂

A bit nervous checking in cause I had no proof of my dual citizenship. No ID, passport or papers. US citizens are not able to travel to Sweden until August 31st. Well, I got through after managers being called, my sister sending pics of papers showing I have my family here and me being at my best behavior 🙂 After connecting flights in Chicago and London I finally arrived wohoooo…

Visiting mom is always priority number one and she loves feeding me! Next stop was my childhood friend Karina. It was a 24h thing that included swimming, sauna, chickens, BBQ and wine…

Catching up takes time so barely had time to sleep. By mistake I had promised to participate in her sons training in the morning at 7AM!!!! I was NOT in my best shape and we also had to sprint in the woods… Just prayed I wouldn’t vomit! I went home later and slept for 2h after that!

I spent an other 24h at my friend Linda’s house this weekend. Even less sleep and this is what recovering yesterday looked like pretty much…

That’s it for now. Hope you all are great and more Sweden stuff to come 🙂

Happy 4th of July…

…weekend 🙂 Did you celebrate? I researched hikes, and off we went. Not really paying attention to the length, altitude, etc, just seeing pretty lakes in the pictures, it was a lot more strenuous we realized when we where about halfway up. Turn around and go down again? No one wanted to give in, so we continued up… Totally worth it when we finally reached the top! We were almost completely alone up there, and it was amazing to take in the sun, silence, and views!

Can you spot the deer in the picture?

Totally exhausted when we came back down, but if you’re in Utah and want a good hike, this one is called Maybird Gulch.

Bought a package of fireworks too, and fired them off in a parking lot. I really enjoy the ones with a big bang!

Of course I had some content to go with 4th of July 🙂

And some other content as well…

I wish when I was a kid when I had anxiety over my big ass feet (they grew twice as fast as the rest of my body parts), I’d known that one day they’d be moneymakers hahahaaaa… Now my big feet have quite the fan base 🙂

Some days I wonder if Bogi doesn’t need some caffeine too…

I worked out this week too. Only remembered to snap pics one day though. If you look at that face you know I was fighting the weights pretty hard…

And with that I say: enjoy the rest of your weekend and cheers!

Coolest thing…

…last week was seeing wild buffalos for the first time. Or they might have been bison, I’m not sure. I kind of thought they were all extinct. There is this place called Antelope Island here in Utah, and it’s a national park where they keep them. There is supposed to be antelopes too, but I didn’t see any…

The Antelope Island is in the Salt Lakes, and it was like waking in a salty desert. I got excited when it said beach access, but it smelled like buffalo turds, so I turned around pretty fast!

There was also a farm from the cowboy times. Not in use anymore, but cool to walk around. I’m reading the book ‘Lonesome Dove’ which takes place back when there was farms, buffaloes, and Indians. This place reminded me of the descriptions in the book.

It’s so great to be able to work out. Got to try boxing one day too. I like it, but if I had to choose the skillset of Rocky or Jean-Claude VanDamme , I’d choose VanDamme!

Per usual there was a day of shooting 🙂

Oh, and one day this super cute golden retriever ran into our garden. It seemed like it had ran away because I didn’t see anyone looking for her. I tried to call the number on her tag, but no one answered. We dropped her off at the veterinarian next door. Shortly after I got a text from the owner, happy that we’d ‘saved’ her dog.

I love the movie room in this house. Watched ‘Inception’ again and I like the movie a lot!

Snapped a pick of my friend Ari while he was watching a video on YouTube on how to clean a whole fish hahahaaaa… YouTube is great when you need instructions!

Just a happy me about to fill up on caffeine 🙂

New week and more workouts, shoots, & adventures 🙂 Hope you all are having a fun summer and good times!

Kisses, Puma

I love Utah!

Having the best time here! If I have to start with one great thing, it’s the gym. It’s so big, and it has pretty much every type of exercise modality you could want of including lifting, Crossfit, Pilates, Spinning, and Aerobics on 2 floors!

The Krav Maga intro class was also great. Unfortunately it’s a bit of a drive, so my ass kicking will be on hold for a bit…

Coffee to me is as important as working out. My favorite place so far is Alpha Coffee, and I always stop by here before the gym. It’s also a great place to work at, so 10% of my day is spent here hahhaaaaa…

Did another hike this past weekend. It was pretty much uphill for 2,5h, but so worth it. The coolest part was seeing a moose enjoying the spot as well. Obviously I started with coffee before hiking to fuel up on caffeine!

I was pretty much exhausted for the rest of the day after that!

If you’re not a fan of nature and moose pics, here is me 🙂 Produced some content…

Which wore me out and napping was required…

Bogi is a companion here, and I just can’t sneak any snack by him…

Some pics from a shoot before I left Puerto Rico. Too good to pass up on 😉

Time to work folks! Hope you all are having a great start to this week! Just grab it by the nuts!

Kisses, Puma

Travel time…

Finally got on a plane, and my summer travel begins! Puerto Rico is hotter than a Finnish sauna in the summer, so I prefer to travel then. Because flights are not operating at normal schedules now, I had a 24h layover in Dallas, Texas. I made the most of it, and started with BBQ in the Deep Ellum neighborhood for breakfast. WOW, Pecan Lodge had impressive food!

I obviously needed coffee afterwards! Merit Coffee – 5 stars. Even though I was too full from the BBQ, I still stuffed myself with a dessert.

Strolled the neighborhood and loved the street art. My favorite was obviously this Clint Eastwood piece because he’s just too cool!

Went to Uptown too for more coffee at Magnolias Sous Le Pont. Also 5 stars!

Then had to take a break and chilled at the rooftop of the hotel with some wine and a perfect view.

Obviously had to have some Tex Mex food while in Texas. Like I hadn’t consumed enough food already, but this desert wanted to get in my belly!

Stayed at Canvas Hotel which was a cool and funky place!

I really liked Dallas. On my next trip to Texas I’d love to do a roadtrip in an RV and explore more.

Next day it was off to Utah. Visiting a friend that grew up here. I love the nature and fresh air.

First thing I did was find a nail salon and got my claws in order. What a luxury to finally get some color and glitter on again hahahaaa…

Other friends came from Arizona too, so there’s been a lot of catching up and hiking.

All this fresh mountain air is making me tired. Tomorrow I’m signing up for a gym and going to start lifting again. My ass has gotten too lazy in the quarantine… On Tuesday I’m going to an intro class of Krav Maga. Ready to take my self defense practice to the next level 🙂

Hugs, Puma

Beach, training, shooting…

Been a productive week. Watching and reading what’s been going on in the world after the tragic death of George Floyd, I wanted to somehow support and try to make a difference. I decided to donate to https://www.blackgirlscode.com/. You can vist their page to read more about their work. I will also keep my eyes open for other ways to support and try to make a change.

This week when taking my walk I ran into a girl that handed me this note. It says – “You are important. You are enough. Be different.” I thought it was a really great thing to do!

My sewing machine is being put to work. Can’t say that all of the finished items look the way I imagined they’d look though. Learning as I try and fail 🙂

On Wedneday the water went out in our city. Well, the ocean is filled with it, so we went to the beach! Perfect photo op and Nina decided her ass needed some exposure too!

Luckily the water came back later because I had sand in every crack!

Found a great workout page on IG @westco.pt. Grabbed some water jugs for weights, and now my legs & arms still hurt hahhaaaa… And yes, if you spot the Xmas tree in the one pic, I’m too lazy to take it down…

Important to check for gains after every workout. Result – None LOL…

More beaching in the ocean and lagoon…

Who says you can only wear a bikini to the beach? I own too many to just have them on at the beach!

Went to brunch at Bistro Cafe this week. Amazing food and huge portions. If you come to Puerto Rico you must eat here! I overdid it and ate so much I didn’t need food for the rest of the day!

More content because there can’t be too much…

Be different, be kind, and enjoy your weekend!

Hugs, Puma
