Finally feeling almost back to normal. Even went to a class at the gym yesterday and struggled through it. At night we had dinner with people from the gym. Most people speak Spanish so I did my best to follow along. Luckily there is always someone translating for me when I’m looking completely lost 🙂 Finished the night off with a Mezcal shot!
Oh, and one guy had this awesome tattoo of an alien handing out mushrooms.
Also got a Christmas tree and started decorating last night. I love the feeling of Christmas being around the corner. Hunter inspected the tree, and so far it still standing. Also forced Hunter to pose for some pictures with his Santa hat, and he was less than impressed by that. I’ll show you next week when I’ve chosen the pics where we both are most photogenic 🙂
I went on a small staycation in Coyocán last week. It’s very popular and a lot of tourists visit during weekends. I stayed at Mansión de Papilo. WOW, what a place!
There were peacocks strolling around and a cat or 2. The colors on the male peacocks are so vibrant. The females looked like regular turkeys next to them lol… And they had an albino peacock too!
I got a whole building to myself in the back. It even had this private pool for me. I hope I can go back soon because it was sooo nice and relaxing there. There was a full tree growing out of the bathroom…
I think I accidentally shot a picture of the toilet too, but now you know how that looks too hahahaa…
Before I left for the retreat I had a girl come over and give me a trippy set of nails. I loved them. I would do it all the time if it didn’t take so long. But pretty cool, or what do you think?
After the retreat I was sick and exhausted for a week. I didn’t do much else other than sleep, cuddle with Hunter, or watch movies. A lot of mornings Hunter and I watch the birds outside together 🙂
When I finally felt better it was time to put on some outfits and get to work…
Catched up with Milla, saw this cute dog, a huge spider, and then it’s just the regular selfies 🙂
I bought more lights for my Christmas tree, so I’m gonna throw them up. Tomorrow starting off with the gym and then going to get my hair done. I have Spanish and a dance class this week too, and on Friday I’m having some friends over for some Swedish Christmas foods 🙂 What are you up to?
Puerto Escondido was way better than I had expected. Such a chill and relaxed place. I guess it wasn’t always as people used to party there a lot, being loud, and staying up late. But they have changed the rules and most places now close at 11. Suited me just fine 🙂
It was also a lot hotter than I expected. First thing after checking in was jumping in my private plunge pool and cooling off 🙂
I stayed at Villa Lunaya by Zicatela beach. Someone had written in the reviews that they spent most of the time in the plunge pool. I did the same. It was the best part of staying there 🙂 But the place is really great and I’d stay there on my next trip as well. Only 4 rooms and nice design. Oh, and they have AC!!!
The location is great too. It’s on a quiet side street, but the beach is around the corner. Literally 2 mins away 🙂 So after cooling off in the pool I headed to the beach and watched the surfers in the sunset.
Decided to get sushi for dinner at Sommo. Charming place, but unfortunately the sashimi was expensive with not a lot of flavor. The seaweed salad and some special with truffle and foie gras was great though.
I was still hungry after and found these two guys flipping burgers on the street. My type of dinner and the burger was delicious.
Sometimes (a lot of times) I’m a bit restless. Or if I don’t burn off some of my energy I get antsy… What’s better than a barefoot walk on the beach?
And after that, guess what? COFFEE! As if the location couldn’t get any better, there is an awesome coffee/breakfast place just around the corner as well – Ojitos Abiertos. I was there every morning 🙂
Checked out the town after. Mostly one main street with shops, restaurants, and cafes.
There was a lot to choose from when it came to eating. There is this popular and tasty fish shack tucked away in an alley. You sweated your ass off, but the food was worth it!
Another great spot was a place right next to the cafe – La casa del surfer. Freshly caught fish for the huge fish tacos! Go early because they sell out of the fish later…
Everyone recommended the Thai restaurant called Lychee. I love Thai food and the food here tasted pretty authentic. And I spotted this beautiful red cat there that reminded me of Hunter. He was not so interested in me though 🙁
No trip is complete without some work! I found a local photographer on Instagram and we booked a shoot. Even though we were out at 8am, my makeup was melting off faster than you can say caliente! I’m waiting for the final pictures. Touched up so I look non-sweaty and flawless like a true IG model 😉 Here’s some BTS pics though…
I had a feeling after that I might have a UTI. Since I had booked a tour for the next day, I didn’t want to risk not being able to go so I decided to call a doctor over. I love how simple doctors visits are over here. I just WhatsApp’ed him, filled out a form and questionnaire and an hour later he was over. Turns out it false alarm, but better safe than sorry 🙂
So next day it was time to check out some crocodiles. Had a private tour guide and we drove about 1.5h south. He told me this place is run by the neighborhood community here.
I try to be aware of places with animals and make sure they’re not in cages or used for performing tricks etc. Since they had these deers in an enclosure I asked why. He told me that they used to hunt and eat them (and turtles) and they almost became extinct. They now realized that they can’t continue like this and these are ‘preserved’ and bred so they can have more of them in the wild in the future…
On the way to the boats there were a few stands that advertised magic mushrooms, mezcal with Peyote, and other fun stuff. Had to check it out and I asked how it was possible for them to just sell it like this in the open. If I understood him right, it’s legal there. I bought a mezcal with a magic shroom in it 🙂
After sweating so much on the tour I said we have to go to the beach next. I was dropped off at Zipolite Beach. After looking around a bit and deciding where I wanted to plant myself down, I spot a group of naked guys. I asked the guide if this was the nude beach all excited.
-“Didn’t you say you wanted to come here” he asked confused.
– “Siii”! I just though he would’ve said something, but whatever, I was happy! He left me there and said he’ll be back in 2 hours to collect me 🙂
Apparently this is the only fully legal nudist beach in all of Mexico.
Afterwards he took me to the little hippie town Mazunte. Wow, what a cool place. Even more chill than Zicatela. I would like to stay here a couple of days next time too.
Another beach I saw while we were out… I guess there was not that many people on this beach so the lifeguard had time to do some fishing too 🙂
Great day. Finished it up with dinner at this restaurant SHA with Oaxacan food. Ate here twice and my favorite dish was the seafood tlayudita. It’s something local, but damn how tasty!!!
Some more pics of whatever else that caught my eye. This little local cat family for example 🙂
The flight back to Mexico City was at 10:30pm. Luckily I was able to pay for a check-out at 6pm so I spent the day in the plunge pool and on the beach…
Last dinner before heading back to the airport at Atarraya. Very nice place and the spicy pineapple mezcal drink was muy bueno! Had to have 2 🙂
And before I say bye I want to give recommendation for all the fellow travellers out there. I travelled with only a carry on. I have had this bag for about 7 years and it has travelled the world with me and it is still in perfect condition. There are so many pockets and compartments so everything stays organised. I’m not getting paid for this, but truly just love this bag for travel and want to recommend it 🙂 (www.ebags.com)
Flight home was delayed an hour, but the flight between Puerto Escondido to CDMX is only an hour and 15 min so no stress… Really great vacation and I’m pretty sure I will visit again 🙂
Got a lot of stuff done this week, but the week feels mediocre. I think it’s because I’ve been having this annoying pain still after my tooth removal. Can’t sleep a whole night, and wake up a couple of times and I either need painkillers or an icepack. I don’t like taking painkillers daily and I hope it will pass soon!
It was about time to get my roots fixed and I visited a new salon that’s run by 2 gringo sisters. Happy with the results mostly because the hairdresser’s assistant was awesome. The hairdresser herself didn’t even bother to come out and check the final result. Maybe she just knew how good she is 😉
Been feeling lazy at the gym. Like I would need a gallon of pre workout to get through it. At least the coffee before makes me believe I’m caffeinated and ready…
Shooting the usual smut…
Also some new Psychonaut stuff coming together…
Talked to friend back in Puerto Rico and she asked me how Mexico is. I always believe ‘showing’ is better than ‘telling’ so I brought out the Lucha Libre masks and shots of Mezcal went down. She was impressed and they’re hopefully coming to visit in July 🙂
The other day I also found 1 stitch left above my ear after the face-lift. Hard to see it because it was hidden amongst the hair. Obviously it had to be removed. Googled plastic surgeons and found a place. Was done in 5 minutes – awesome!
Finished the book ‘Being Mortal: Medicine and What Matters in the End by Atul Gawande’. I recommend everyone to read this. I personally wish I would’ve read this book when my mom was getting very ill. What questions to ask her, to find out what was important for her in the end. Great and informative read!
That was pretty much my week. I hope this coming week will be very productive 🙂 Got a cool shoot planned for Tuesday that I’m very excited for! I also hope to attend a special ceremony they have here in Mexico next weekend, fingers crossed!
I think this quote by Janis Joplin fits me great – “My business is to enjoy and have fun. And why not, if in the end, everything will end, right?”
It’s been a couple of busy and fun weeks. First of all I received my Mexican Residency Visa, wohoooo! I feel a bit like I’m Mexican now 🙂 Considering it all, it was pretty smooth to apply and get it. Not like getting a greencard and then citizenship in the US. For me that included an expensive settlement with the idiot I was married to, and then going to court to get the citizenship.
Then there was April 1st. Do you guys do pranks on April 1st where you are? They don’t do it here in Mexico, but we always did it in my family. I had to go a bit easy on mom when she was getting old and didn’t want her to have a heart attack. One of my jokes to her one year was calling and saying there were riots in LA. I said I was hidden in a closet while fake crying. Then telling her with a panicked voice that they were breaking into my apartment. My mom started crying and I finally admitted it was April Fools… Mom was not too impressed. This year I posted this pic on my Instagram and claimed it was a drunken decision to tattoo some paws on my face. They kind of grew on me so don’t be surprised if I soon appear with paws on my face 🙂
I had a photoshoot with a new photographer. Supercool chick and who practiced her English with me and I tried my Spanish with her. There was some confusion and misunderstandings, but we got some cool pics of the Psychonaut clothing 🙂
Then a couple, Jared & Salma, that we know from San Francisco arrived here in Mexico City. So much fun with friends in town! The big thing was that Jared had planned to surprise Salma with proposing to her. It was all a big secret and I was involved in luring Salma to the location. First we went to get a mani + pedi. Very smart since there was going to be a photographer taking pics of the ring and you want a fresh manicure for that. Then I was to suggest drinks at the Four Seasons, where a bartender was going to come over with a key and ask Salma to go up to a room. I was to receive a phone call and just excuse myself. All according to plan and we had time to order some sparkling water before the bartender appears with a box, note, and room key. Salma was suspecting she had been tricked and there might be a proposal coming. I just played dumb and surprised. Long story short, all went great and she said yes 🙂 I was too excited to even remember to snap pics.
There’s been a lot of dinners when they’ve been in town. Lorea, a place we visited before, but great food and drinks.
A new place for us called Sud 777. That was a great tasting menu! Can highly recommend this restaurant if you are in CDMX! A couple of the dishes…
We also did a Mezcal tasting with El Tigre. They come highly recommended and people were writing on Reddit it was the best Mezcal they had in Mexico. And yes, I agree! Super smooth and tasty Mezcal. Good info about the procedure what goes into producing the drink. The wooden club I’m holding is used to smash up the plant. Got food too and before I knew it I was drunk and had to go straight home and sleep for 2h hahahaa…. But if you looking to have some great Mezcal, look for El Tigre!!!
A little bit of sleezing in between all the dinners and drinks…
I have had problems with my shoulder and wrist. Got recommended to go see Diego. He’s Colombian and they said it would hurt. No joke, he turned up the electricity on the patches until my arm was jerking off the massage bench and the massages he gives, is like being run over by a tractor. I’m so sweaty after trying to get through it all, but my shoulder and wrist feels better. He also goes through my legs and these ‘airbags’ were the most comfortable thing he let me try 🙂
Also found this great spot that’s kind of hidden – Traspatio. So nice inside. Small menu and great drinks.
I also made Salma put on a Psychonaut sweater and received some more clothing samples. We’re making progress 🙂
Here’s the leftover pics 🙂
On Tuesday night I fly to Sweden. I’m so excited! Long time since I’ve been back, so it’s going to be so good to see everyone 🙂 And eat Swedish candy. Oh, I might have some surgery too if it all goes according to plan. Nothing serious, just beautification heheheee….
I hope you all are great and don’t forget to #mute 🙂
I usually blog on Sundays, but I spent most of yesterday gathering back my strength after Saturday’s dinner party. We were 16 people with some Gringos, Mexicans, a Colombian, and get this, another Finn! Debating if I should write it was ‘so much fun’ or ‘too much fun’ 🙂 I am the type of person that feeds off the energy from other people. When I’m surrounded by fun people I tend to get overly excited and go all in! You never know, could be the last party so you better make the most of it! I had a plan to take some pics, but the Mezcal was flowing, and cigarettes had to be smoked. But this pic pretty much sums up yesterday for me LOL…
On Friday last week I shot with a new photographer here in Mexico City. A girl at the gym recommended him. We shot a lot, and I think we got some really cool stuff. Still waiting for the pics so here’s some behind the scenes pics in the meanwhile 🙂
And when you don’t have access to a pro photographer, you do it yourself. I think I do a pretty good job…
I have a great week ahead. Trying another photographer to shoot some clothing on Wednesday. Going to work out hard, get my Spanish lesson, some friends coming into town, and on Friday I hope I get my Residency Visa wohoooo 🙂
Wohooooo, first of all, big congrats to Finland for the Olympic Gold in hockey on Sunday!!! It’s the first time ever they got gold! I couldn’t watch the game despite VPN’s and all, so I was on WhatsApp with my sister in Sweden. She would comment, film the TV, and show me the action. In the last period when Finland was winning 2-1 against Russia, we were so nervous Russia would score. But no, Finland got the gold!!!! I played Finland’s National Anthem and my sister ran out on the balcony in Sweden waving the Finnish flag hahahaaaa… For those who don’t know, I’m born a Finn 🙂
On Tuesday last week we took the bus from CDMX to San Miguel de Allende. Only like 3,5h away and a very nice and comfortable bus ride.
I found a very nice Airbnb house for a great price. Was greeted by homemade guacamole, chips, and a bottle of wine 🙂 Oh, and not to forget the garden & beautiful views from the rooftop!
Starving we headed out and picked El Manantial for food & drinks. Supercool place and the food was so good! Of course there was Mezcal too and the cocktails were so tasty I had to have 2! We actually went back and ate there the next day too because it was just too amazing to pass up!
Strolled around the super cute town with all the alleys, boutiques, restaurants and churches. And there’s no shortage of rooftop bars/restaurants. Watched the sun go down and the moon appear on a rooftop with some tacos 🙂
Our place had 2 fireplaces. One was in the bedroom and it was perfect to end the first day chilling in front of it.
And how about waking up to this view?
Headed out for breakfast and coffee. One of the more popular breakfast spots in town – Cafe Lavanda. Good spot and a lot of options for coffee!
Toured the city some more after.
Then refill on the coffee intake. Great coffee spot – Ki’bok coffee. Much needed after walking the cobblestoned streets.
I needed an afternoon nap and got some sun upstairs too. So peaceful!
Finished off the night at a rooftop bar. Great to be drinking and have the churches remind you you’re probably overdoing it to their standards hahahaaaa….
Worked a bit the next day. A pleasure when you can do it outdoors and catch some sun while doing it!
No time to waste and more restaurants to try. Ended up at Tostevere. Wow, wow, wow! Small menu, but my soft shell crab wrap and the dessert was some of the best I’ve ever tasted!!!
Then off to a Mezcal bar – San Mezcal. A funny part about SMA is that there are a lot of retired gringos there. I don’t blame them, it’s a perfect place to retire and half of the bar was people aged 70+. I’ve decided that’s how I want to spend my retirement, out eating and drinking cocktails and no fu*ks given if I’m hungover the next day or not hahhaaaa… Great Mezcal drinks!
The next morning we got up early and went for breakfast at the Rosewood Hotel. They’re supposed to have an amazing Sunday buffet, but regular breakfast was good too. And a then a coffee at Zenteno Cafe before heading to the busterminal and back to CDMX.
Almost forgot the picture of this cool cowboy that came riding in the middle of town. He said he lives close by and likes to ride in to town. Yeah, sounds perfect to me 🙂
That sums up last week. My weekend was relaxing and now going to mentally get ready for my crossfit class in a couple of hours 🙂
I love Mexico City! It just keeps staying amazing here, and I’ve only managed to cover 10% of everything I want to see and do 🙂
The highlight this week was visiting some markets yesterday. First there was the craft market. Countless skulls and other bits and pieces. Four of us did a challenge. Who could buy the best stuff in 20min with only 200 pesos? You can see it on my IG stories now – @thepumaswede.
Then we hit a food market. WOW! Never thought I’d try eating a scorpion, but I did! Crispy! Not so bad when you washed it down with Mezcal. Obviously had to convince Eliana to have one too, but she just ate it like it was a candy hahahaaa…
I always dreamt about smashing a piñata so when I found them at the market I had to get one! Will fill it up and smash it! Dreams do come true hahahaaa…
I was also encouraged by Kira to make a dance video for her TikTok. I agreed and was soon reminded how bad my coordination skills are and that I posses no rhythm. But it’s a shame if you give up, and we decided that a great spot was in the middle of a crosswalk with The Angel of Independence in the background. Here you go!
The Angel of Independence, this great pair of wings, and a couple of happy locals 🙂
My goal has been to go to the gym Mon – Fri. I managed 4 days this week. The face of struggle…. At least Rocco rewards with some ear licks after!
I’m not always consuming grasshoppers or cockroaches. Love the food here! There was a tortilla soup in the ceramic doll. Little unclear about what the pandas were up to…
This weeks non TikTok/IG content 🙂
Sitting at yet an other great cafe drinking great coffee and updating you guys on here. Now we’re a total of 9 people here so will send a message out and see if anyone wants to comer with me 🙂 Throwing the few Spanish words I know out there 🙂
