Carajillos & Swedish ‘fika’

When Sunday comes it’s time to reflect over the week that passed via my blog. I hate feeling like nothing happened, and a week of my life just passed by. All of a sudden it’s all over, and you wish you’d done more with your time. Fortunately this past week did have some fun things 🙂

First I met this Mexican woman at the gym, and when she found out I’m from Sweden, she starts talking fluent Swedish to me. WTF! So cool. Turns out she studied in Sweden for 2 years and learned the language. We decided to get together for a ‘fika’ (having a coffee in swedish) and talk some more Swedish. We talked about all the foods, candy, and snacks from Sweden we miss. Made me miss it a lot and I hope I’ll make a trip to Sweden next month 🙂

Then there was work and threw in some St Patrick’s Day vibes as well 🙂

On St Patrick’s Day some friends and I got together for dinner & drinks at Estiatorio Nostos. It’s an amazing Greek restaurant in Lomas de Chapultepec. It was so much fun and I had waaay too many Carajillos. Carajillos being a coffee drink with just coffee and Liqueur 43. Soooo goood! I only managed to take a couple of pics when picking out our fish for dinner. Then I kind of forgot to capture anything…

I’m pretty proud of myself that I did make it to the gym the next morning and did a hard workout. Best way to cleanse the leftover alcohol out of your body!

I’m excited for next week too. I’m shooting with a new photographer a friend recommended. Got some awesome stuff planned and think it will be very artsy and creative! Also putting together a dinner next weekend so I’m sensing more Carajillos coming my way 🙂

Now I’m going to go get a Cappuccino and read some. I’m reading the 2nd book in the ‘Gentlemen Bastards’ series by Scott Lynch. Very good and exciting. Oh, and if you’re like me, waiting for the 6th book in the Game of Thrones series by George R. R. Martin, I can highly recommend another book he wrote. It takes place before the events of Games of Thrones, but there are some familiar names – ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’. Very good!

That’s it! I hope you’ll enjoy your day and I’ll leave you with a beautiful rainy & sunny day pic and a couple of cute dogs!

Visit to Tepoztlán

Tepoztlan is one of Mexico’s ‘Magic Towns’ since 2010. In Spanish they are called ‘pueblo mágicos’ and there are currently 132 of them in Mexico. I’ve visited 4 of them: Sayulita, Valle de Bravo, San Miguel de Allende, and now Tepoztlan. It’s only about 1.5h from Mexico City, so it’s very convenient to pop by there. We went from Tuesday to Friday. I like going during the week when there are not that many tourists. The only downside to that is that some of the popular places are closed during half of the week and are only open from Thursday to Sunday.

Found this nice house on Airbnb. Really like that it was right by the mountains and so peaceful & quiet.

Threw in our bags and headed out starving looking for food. Since we were in the outskirts of town, it was about a 20-30 min walk to all of the places. It didn’t matter, because it’s beautiful walking around the town.

Went to this hotel and ate at their restaurant Mesa de Origen. I love fried pork fat and guacamole. It was a good restaurant, but I prefer more local joints than hotel restaurants. But when you’re starving, time is of the essence or I get hangry!

I continued walking towards the town center. By accident I looked up and saw a cool balcony. Decided to venture inside the building, and in the back there was a little staircase that led up to this great bar. The spicy Mezcalita was one of the best I’ve ever had! Unfortunately there was no visible name anywhere at the bar and I can’t find it marked on Google maps either 🙁 Just look up and if you spot the ‘lady’ on the balcony, you’ve found the place!

Next morning we headed out for breakfast. This place Tlacuacha Cafeteria was amazing and the food + coffee was delicious!

Then I wanted to enjoy the pool and catch some sun. Like an amateur I stayed out waaaay to long and my skin got fried! But it was so nice and relaxing to just chill there… Took some pics and had to filter the f*ck out of them or I could be posing as a stop sign!

More walking and it’s beautiful lighting during sunset. We came across these horses that just casually strolled through the streets. And this beautiful cat…

Tried the restaurant La Cueva Tepoztlan for dinner. It is a cozy bar and restaurant. Food was tasty and they had 2 for 1 drinks so we obviously had to try them out too. Muy bueno!!!

My favorite place was Cafe de la Milpa where we went for breakfast. Google directions were a bit off, but we finally found it. You walk this beautiful road surrounded by orange trees (at least I think that’s what they were) up to the cafe. The whole place is surrounded by their fields and we sat outside in the garden eating. And look at this cute dog that became very friendly when the food arrived 🙂

There is a famous pyramid on a hill that everyone recommended us to go see. The hike up there was closed now though, so we opted for a waterfall hike I found. We found the hike, but no waterfall. Instead we found this place that resembled a cave. So cool and there are beautiful views from there.

On top of our place you could see a cave in the mountains. I asked the guy who managed the Airbnb if we could hike up there. He only said “no, muy peligroso” and looked very stern so no exploring that cave. I wanted to know if it was dangerous because it was a steep hill or if there are like mountain lions or something up there. Admit it looks inviting 🙂

Time flew by and wish we would’ve had a couple of days more in town. Well, it’s not far so I can easily go back 🙂 Not many Ubers in the area so we had our Uber driver who took us there pick us up. Very smooth and can recommend a visit to Tepoztlan if you are around 🙂

Did the Crossfit Open workout scaled on Friday when we got back to Mexico City. Very hard, but it’s done! Otherwise a relaxing weekend and changed the mezcal drinks for coffee…

And I found this superfunny IG page that jokes about the Finns and theirs ways – @veryfinnishproblems.

Also watched Donnie Darko for the first time last night. Very good!!! Have you seen it?

Hope you’re doing great!

Another week…

It’s been a week of working, working out, and I finished off drinking enough alcohol to put my liver to serious work!

Anyone else doing the Crossfit Open workouts? I did it on Friday, the scaled version, and got to 4 burpees in the 10th round. Felt pretty satisfied with myself until I saw a Finnish girl racing through the workout. She got to something like 3 rounds. She lives in Mexico and competes for Mexico. So fun to get to talk some Finnish to her after. Didn’t get any pics from my open workout, but the last pic pretty much sums up how my Crossfit is going hahahaaaaa…

This week I also took a gong class for the first time. Very cool and it was great doing it on a rooftop while the sun was setting.

I try to get outdoors and have some nature around me on the weekends. There are great parks here, and I love feeding the squirrels! Last weekend handing out nuts 🙂

Shoot, shoot, shoot…

Before Christmas I did a really cool shoot for a Swedish magazine. I was styled in cool outfits and got a black wig. The magazine is called Nuda and this edition is called Ego. The text below is from their website and a link where you can order your copy. You can choose between 8 different covers too. https://nudapaper.com/shop/

Nuda is a theme based publication, investigating a field through visual culture and science. This issue is titled Ego, an exploration of our psyche, brain, and mind. Ego is on a mission to untangle the mess of the I and find out what we really see when we look in the mirror.”

Some BTS pics from the shoot and a couple of samples from the magazine 🙂 So cool if I may say so myself, and there is some text about my explorations with LSD.

Fixed up my hair too. Needed a bit of highlights and a trim.

Last week I finished the series ‘Banshee’ and ‘The Righteous Gemstones’. Two very different series, but so great!!! ‘Banshee’ is a lot of violence & killing, while ‘The Righteous Gemstones’ is hilarious comedy.

On Friday it was a friend’s 40th birthday celebration with a live band and all. When they throw a party here it seems like they do it properly 🙂

Yesterday it was a dinner party, but I think I drank more than I ate 🙂 But a very fun night, and now I’m chugging coffee and writing to you. Hangovers are for basic bitches 😉

Here comes some dogs & cats for you and this guy painting a crosswalk 🙂

Wish you a great new week to come. I booked a stay in a new town close by I want to explore. Tell you about it next week 🙂

War

I don’t think anyone has missed that there is war in Europe between Ukraine and Russia. So horrible and I never thought there would be war in Europe during my lifetime. I know there are wars that have been fought far longer in other countries, but this feels so close.

My mom and dad grew up in Finland during WW2. I remember them telling me stories how the bomb alarms went off and they had to run for shelter in basements. They got coupons for food since it was rationed out. My grandma couldn’t afford to feed my mom and her two sisters, so the sisters were put on a train to Sweden. They got a note around their necks with their names, and people in Sweden took them in. My mom was the youngest and stayed in Finland.

I have a Russian friend and her parents live in Russia, but she has relatives in Ukraine. Some of them made it out to other cities where there’s no fighting by car. Someone wanted to take the train the next day, but then the city was surrounded by tanks and they couldn’t leave. So horrible and I can’t even imagine what people are going through at the moment! I don’t know how, but I hope this war comes to an end quickly!

I hope you all are safe!

Olympic Gold & San Miguel de Allende

Wohooooo, first of all, big congrats to Finland for the Olympic Gold in hockey on Sunday!!! It’s the first time ever they got gold! I couldn’t watch the game despite VPN’s and all, so I was on WhatsApp with my sister in Sweden. She would comment, film the TV, and show me the action. In the last period when Finland was winning 2-1 against Russia, we were so nervous Russia would score. But no, Finland got the gold!!!! I played Finland’s National Anthem and my sister ran out on the balcony in Sweden waving the Finnish flag hahahaaaa… For those who don’t know, I’m born a Finn 🙂

On Tuesday last week we took the bus from CDMX to San Miguel de Allende. Only like 3,5h away and a very nice and comfortable bus ride.

I found a very nice Airbnb house for a great price. Was greeted by homemade guacamole, chips, and a bottle of wine 🙂 Oh, and not to forget the garden & beautiful views from the rooftop!

Starving we headed out and picked El Manantial for food & drinks. Supercool place and the food was so good! Of course there was Mezcal too and the cocktails were so tasty I had to have 2! We actually went back and ate there the next day too because it was just too amazing to pass up!

Strolled around the super cute town with all the alleys, boutiques, restaurants and churches. And there’s no shortage of rooftop bars/restaurants. Watched the sun go down and the moon appear on a rooftop with some tacos 🙂

Our place had 2 fireplaces. One was in the bedroom and it was perfect to end the first day chilling in front of it.

And how about waking up to this view?

Headed out for breakfast and coffee. One of the more popular breakfast spots in town – Cafe Lavanda. Good spot and a lot of options for coffee!

Toured the city some more after.

Then refill on the coffee intake. Great coffee spot – Ki’bok coffee. Much needed after walking the cobblestoned streets.

I needed an afternoon nap and got some sun upstairs too. So peaceful!

Finished off the night at a rooftop bar. Great to be drinking and have the churches remind you you’re probably overdoing it to their standards hahahaaaa….

Worked a bit the next day. A pleasure when you can do it outdoors and catch some sun while doing it!

No time to waste and more restaurants to try. Ended up at Tostevere. Wow, wow, wow! Small menu, but my soft shell crab wrap and the dessert was some of the best I’ve ever tasted!!!

Then off to a Mezcal bar – San Mezcal. A funny part about SMA is that there are a lot of retired gringos there. I don’t blame them, it’s a perfect place to retire and half of the bar was people aged 70+. I’ve decided that’s how I want to spend my retirement, out eating and drinking cocktails and no fu*ks given if I’m hungover the next day or not hahhaaaa… Great Mezcal drinks!

The next morning we got up early and went for breakfast at the Rosewood Hotel. They’re supposed to have an amazing Sunday buffet, but regular breakfast was good too. And a then a coffee at Zenteno Cafe before heading to the busterminal and back to CDMX.

Almost forgot the picture of this cool cowboy that came riding in the middle of town. He said he lives close by and likes to ride in to town. Yeah, sounds perfect to me 🙂

That sums up last week. My weekend was relaxing and now going to mentally get ready for my crossfit class in a couple of hours 🙂

Work & Goals

I set some goals for 2022 with one of my best friends in Sweden. To make sure we stay on track, we have quarterly goals, and we have a meeting at the end of each month. We’ve been pretty good at sticking with our goals in January. It’s great to have someone to be accountable to. I’ll share a few of my goals. At least 5 min Spanish on Duolingo 5x a week, and practicing a handstand against a wall twice a week. I’m chicken shit scared to kick up against the wall and I know it’s all in my head! Annoying!

Did a mini hotel stay last week too. Tried out the hotel Condesa DF. I liked the hotel it a lot. A bit expensive, but super nice people working there. Pretty good sushi on the rooftop restaurant/bar and my Mezcal Margarita was excellent. Breakfast was included and they had a good variety. Very good location in Condesa if you need a place to stay in CDMX 🙂

I also received samples on some embroidery work I’m having done here. It’s all done by hand by 40 women here in Mexico. Very cool and can’t wait for it to be ready. Just had to redesign them a bit, but their work is of excellent quality.

It was also Tamale Day here in Mexico last week. Yummy! There’s a small taco place around the corner from where we live and they invited us for some tamales. The pink one is a dessert tamale. Looks like a ________ hahahaaaa… Oh, and the pink drink was some specialty too. I just didn’t really understand what it was. Tasted like a warm bubblegum milkshake 🙂

Met so many cute dogs and the cutest cat too. Look at his round face. The girl was walking him in a harness and he was so chill! The puppy is a guy’s from the gym, adorable!!! I waaaaaant…

A couple of ‘work’ pics and a couple from a walk in the park 🙂 Areola and nipple edited off for IG hahaaa… Who ever got offended by a nipple?

Nothing special planned for this week other than work and working out 🙂 And remember –

SF pics & back to CDMX

Here are some pics from the trip to San Francisco. First day it was so foggy you could barely see the top of the tall buildings.

Outside the Mexican Consulate. I think this was the 2nd day when the visa was approved because I look so happy 🙂

One of my favorite things in SF is all the amazing coffee places! Before I left I marked all the shops I wanted to get coffee from on Google Maps. One of my favorites in flavor and location – Andytown Coffee Roasters. They have this rooftop park with a walkway outside that was awesome!

My absolute favorite is Wrecking Ball Coffee Roasters. WOW! So good and brought a couple of bags of coffee beans back with me to Mexico.

Other great coffee spots I visited were Home Coffee Roasters, Radiator Coffee Salon, and Red Rock Coffee Company in Mountain View. I used to live in Mountain View and stayed with a friend there on this visit, so it was great to go back to Red Rock every morning 🙂

There was this great specialty market that had pretty much all of my favorite coffee roasters. I love Verve, Chromatic, Ritual, Equator and Four Barrel. Had to buy a couple of more bags from there too 🙂 I was pretty over-caffeinated by the end of my trip hahahaaaa…

It was so much fun walking around in San Francisco again. I love the colorful Haight – Ashbury area.

I love lobster rolls and ate that twice. One of my favorite foods!

Great to see Patricia again and catch up with her. Patricia is the human.

More random pics from SF. Oh, and I love my Russian style hat that I wore everywhere. SF was sunny but cold!

It felt good to return to Mexico. Needed to get my butt back into gym and it feels so good!

Content has been produced and hopefully made people happy 🙂

Worked on Pussitive…

I have a busy and fun week ahead. A little overnight getaway on Wednesday, crossfitting, shooting and got some clothing samples to hopefully approve for production 🙂 Oh, and a visit to an orthopedic too because one foot has been hurting for a while and not getting better.

Let’s rock, Puma

LA & SF

Right now I’m sitting at the airport in Guadalajara waiting to connect to Mexico City. The tickets were very expensive when booking them last minute, so had to get one flight with a layover now. One thing that’s always a great experience here in Mexico are the airport lounges. This one is huge and super nice. I love to have a coffee whatever time of day, and at this lounge they even have a Rancilio bean grinder (coffee lovers will know). In Mexico City, before flying to SF, the lounge had a nail salon, cooked meals you could order for free, and even offered shoe polishes.

Very happy I’m almost done with the residency Visa. Took 2 visits to the consulate in San Francisco and on Friday it was finally halfway done. Just have to exchange it to a permanent Visa now in Mexico.

Pics from SF coming soon. Will share a couple though with my favorite Mexican. So great to see Patricia again. We met at a Crossfit gym and it’s been about 4 years since I last saw her. Or since she saw my cleavage hahahaaa…

OK, it’s Monday now. I didn’t manage to finish the blog last night before taking off. I was too busy picking up and eating Oreo cookies and then I got super tired. So happy to be back in Mexico. Just feels like home now 🙂 Got straight into work this morning. Painted my tired face and then shot a bunch of stuff. Ate anything but healthy in SF so it felt good to hit the gym today! My bloated belly bounced pretty good on the floor doing burpees hahaaaa…

And finally some pics from LA. Sandy’s kids are always very creative and surprised me with this tent on my arrival. -“This is your bed” they said proudly! Awesome!

Everyone was having Covid or was having a fear of it and didn’t want to shoot. Instead me and my favorite (I’m writing that in case he reads this lol) photographer Nick hit our secret outdoor location and got creative. Great content and a great day!

Also shot at a location.

Then we took the kids and drove to Big Bear. Can’t believe I lived in LA for years and never went! I loved it and I’m pretty sure I’ll go back there for some hiking some day.

One of my biggest fears is bears! Imagine hiking and all of a sudden a bear would appear. I read and watch so many videos on how to act if you encounter one. I would most likely do just the opposite of what they all say – take off running with a squirt of ‘Nutella’ in my pants! So I saw this building covered in bear paintings and this is the only way I want to experience bears!

That was about it from LA. As always it was great to hang with Sandy and her family. A couple of more random pics before I flew back to Mexico. I always look for new coffee places and found a great one – Ideology Coffee. So good!

Love Snoopy! Relaxes 90% of the time 🙂

2 different selfies, 2 different styles 😉

Oh, almost forgot these 2 videos. One of the reasons Nick is my favorite photographer. He got the same humor as me 🙂

Happy New Year :)

I’m only 2 weeks late wishing you that. Better late than never as they say right? How were your Holiday’s? Already broken some New Year’s Resolutions? Or did you bust into 2022 guns blazing?

Things here got busy during the Holidays. First of all I cooked my a*s off on Xmas-Eve. Rolled and cooked about 150 meatballs. But everyone loved the meatball sandwiches with the beet salad! And the Colombian empanadas were super tasty, so it was all a success 🙂 I haven’t had a meatball sandwich since Xmas, and I’d lick a toilet seat to get one right now!

The rest of Xmas flew by, and I have to say the Swedish traditions are a bit better. People were ordering pizza to eat on Xmas Day, and I felt I was mostly cleaning up after others. I love having people over and around me, but when they don’t clean up after themselves, I lose it a bit. Well, you live and learn 🙂

I did like visiting the Historic District during the Holidays. They know the meaning of bigger is better over here!

Need inspiration for your next nail design? They have a tent with like 80-100 people doing manicures in there!!! Take your pick…

On New Years we were supposed to go to a party. Everyone going had to get a Covid test. Well, turns out the host himself got his test back on NYE and was positive. Ooops, change of plans. Instead we had some people over at our place. Some food and drinks before 2022 wohoooo! It went so fast and I didn’t even snap one pic. But I shot these that I was supposed to post before NYE hahahaaaa….

Then I took off to LA and was hoping to get an interview date at any consulate in the US for a residency visa here in Mexico. Things are not always as easy I think they are. A lot of consulates have a huge backlog or don’t even have available dates for interviews. Finally I got lucky and now have a date next week in San Francisco. Flew back to Mexico because pretty much everyone in LA was getting Covid or locking themselves inside. Hard to get any shoots done. At least I got to hang with my bestie Sandy and her family. We did a day trip to Big Bear and that was awesome! Pics coming 🙂

Working hard before taking off to SF next week. Lived there for a year before Puerto Rico, so it’s going to be great to go back 🙂 Already planned a dinner with my friend Patricia there, and she just sent me a message that she popped her hip and ended up in ER yesterday. I love that she has the same humor as me! Nurse Puma is coming!

A couple of more left-over pics from 2021. Seeing the meatball sandwich pictures made me hungry and I need to go find some tacos now!

Merry Christmas :)

Christmas Eve is finally here! It feels a bit weird celebrating Xmas and the sun is shining here in Mexico. In Sweden, where I usually spend my holiday’s, it’s pitch black outside by 3pm, cold and maybe some snow on the ground. How and where are you spending your holiday’s?

I’m cooking some beets now. Going to make a Swedish ‘rödbetssallad’ which is a beet salad that goes with the meatballs I’m going to make in a bit 🙂 Got my Spanish teacher Eliana coming over from Colombia today too and she’s going to make some Colombian specialties too. Tomorrow it will be more of a gringo celebration. I do think 24th of Dec is the proper day to celebrate! I mean, c’mon, I should know since Santa is from Korvatunturi in Finland and all 🙂

Here’s my Xmas pics and I wish you all the best for the Holiday’s!!!

Ho ho ho, Puma Swede
